Mitchell Coleman - Perception

LOS ANGELES, April 1, 2016 – Acclaimed Jazz bassist, Mitchell Coleman Jr., today announced the release of his highly anticipated second album Perception via his own independent Soul Revelation Records label. Mitchell has once again teamed up in a joint partnership with veteran Motown producer Michael B. Sutton, to give fans an instantly danceable, funky, feel-good album. The single “Funkatized” premiered nationally on various Billboard Smooth Jazz radio stations, quickly gaining momentum and becoming the number 1 song on The Wave in Cleveland.

“I want fans to feel excited when they hear Perception” said Coleman. “When I play the bass and get funky, it rejuvenates me and I can only compare it to a religious experience. It’s a cheerful song that stimulates the soul inside of you.“

The new album brings the listener closer into the psyche of Mitchell Coleman Jr. as displayed in the infectious track “ Interfuse” and the ethereal “ Journey”. Mitchell also does a tribute to the “ Snarky Puppy” aficionado’s with the slammin’ “Redemption”. Perhaps two of the hidden gems on the LP are “Enchanted Summer” and a classic Crusaders/Randy Crawford remake of “Street Life” sung by Dionyza Sutton (High School Musical, Cheetah Girls) who’s amazing voice embodies the legendary Randy Crawford. To top things off Mitchell brings hip-hop legend “Shorty Mac” (Ray Jay, Moesha) on the track “ Brand New Day”.

Coleman’s much-anticipated new album, Perception also features top industry legends Michael Bolivar (former saxophonist for The Ojay’s, Aretha Franklin), James Gadson (former drummer for Herbie Hancock, BB King, Quincy Jones), Josh Sklair (former guitarist for Etta James) and many more!

Soul Searching Coleman’s debut album, was a journey of musical exploration that served as an introduction to his creativity as an artist. Perception, displays Coleman’s musical growth and artistic development. “Art served as my inspiration for Perception,” said Coleman. “Because I understand that art is subjective, I never allowed anyone’s opinion of me to define who I am. My music is a continual journey and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my soul with the world.”

About Mitchell Coleman:

Inspired by his much admired influences, Mitchell Coleman Jr. has fulfilled a lifelong dream of creating the music he hears in his heart and feels in his soul – and sharing it with the world. Even as a teen, Coleman had been enthused and motivated by the artistry and skillfulness of trumpeter Miles Davis and renowned bassists Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Mark Adams (founder of funk band Slave), Louis ‘Thunder Thumbs’ Johnson, and former Sly and the Family Stone alum and ‘Father of the Thump’ Larry Graham. But it was jazz-fusion virtuoso Jaco Pastorius who influenced him the most. ‘Soul Searching may be Coleman’s first solo work, but now that the former sideman has completel released his own creative energy – unrestrained by the expectations and constraints of other artists – it’s sure to be just the beginning! Nominated “Best Jazz” for HMMA Award.
